Human Givens Therapy

We have recently graduated with diploma in Human Givens Therapy. We are now duty-bound to have a period of supervised practice.  Working under a highly esteemed psychotherapist and educator, we are now taking on clients for psychotherapy to help them work through barriers to happiness and toward contentment. “The law of all living organisms is that, to survive, they must take nourishment from the environment to continually maintain and rebuild themselves”

Joe Griffin, Ivan Tyrrell & Human Givens College, 2021 p.6

The human givens approach is a set of organising ideas that provides a holistic, scientific framework for understanding the way that individuals and society work.

This framework encompasses the latest scientific understandings from neurobiology and psychology, as well as ancient wisdom and original new insights.

At its core is a highly empowering idea – that human beings, like all organic beings, come into this world with a set of needs and innate resources “givens”. If those needs are met appropriately and resources used wisely, it is not possible to be mentally ill. Perhaps no more powerful statement could ever be made about the human condition: If people’s needs are met well enough, they won’t get depressed; they cannot have psychosis; they won’t fall into the grip of addictions. Human Givens Model to therapy is focused on proactive solutions that are facing forward and act in present. Your past is only relevant if it has a direct impact on your daily routine. If there is any trauma that you have dealt with and packed away we don’t need to talk about it.

How it can help?

By experiencing life we gain knowledge of how to deal with certain situation but sometimes that understanding is not enough to guide us through. In Human Givens therapy we are showing how to change unhelpful thinking styles and help clients take a different perspective on their situation; problem-solving, pointing to whatever lessons are required to build on coping skills and removing unwanted trapped memories of trauma using the rewind technique.

Sessions involve active engagement between client and therapist to “build the bridge” and are always driven by what you want to talk about. We do that by accessing your resources and set positive and achievable goals to work towards. We will work together to make you feel better.

Instead of being reliant on one ‘model’ of therapy – the Human Givens Approach is fluid and flexible, making use of several techniques and approaches which will best suit the particular client being worked with. This in sum delivers results.
